Fashion Sewing Club is a monthly meeting (second Tuesday and Saturday) featuring garments, pattern modification and review, and the latest news in the sewing world. You will be provided with tips, techniques and new ideas that are sure to inspire you. Current fashion, chic wear and proper fit are just some of the topics we will explore. Whether you are an experienced sewist (and you’ve been quilting while waiting for something like this:) or just beginning – this club is for you! Bring Show and Tell for a chance to win a door prize.

Do you have a new to you serger you don’t know how to use? Never taken your serger out of the box? Bring your instruction manual and any tools that come with your machine and we’ll help you get comfortable with what could become your best sewing tool. Or, if a serger is on your wish list, practice and play with one of ours to decide if a serger is for you. Please let us know if we need to bring a machine ☺

6/12/10:30 Fashion Sewing Club
6/13/1-4 pm Focus on Fit
Use the summer months to get basic patterns to fit correctly. Each month we’ll focus on a different garment that will result in a pattern you can use as is, with modifications or to check the fit of other patterns. Take one or all.
Fee: $35 per session
June 13, 1-4 pm Basic Shell-darted or non-darted pattern
July 18, 1-4 pm Straight or A-line skirt
Aug. 15, 1-4 pm Basic Tee with raglan or set-in sleeve, round neck

Fabric as needed for two of each garment-try to choose fabric that will behave like the fabric you would actually sew the pattern in. i.e. only bring muslin if you would wear it

6/15/2-4:30 Sewing With Sheers
Sheers are a big fashion statement this summer and so fun to wear-but scary to sew with. We’ll highlight tips and techniques and several patterns that work well for sheers.
Bring your sewing machine (and maybe a few good feet-straight stitch, overlocker) and basic sewing supplies if you want to actually try the techniques.
Fee: $30
6/30/10-1 Eternal Sergery
Go beyond theory and practice to the practical with your serger. Maybe you have just completed one of the basic serger classes, or had your serger for years, but have never explored the full potential of this amazing machine. Get ready to use your serger in the real life of sewing. Focus each month is on a specific project to master technique. Even better – project supplies are included in class fee!
Skill Level: All-but please be able to thread your serger and read your manual ☺
June 30, 10 am-1 pm, Saturday-Flatlock a gored skirt. Skirt will fit anyone, you’ll just use as many gores as necessary, elastic waist and rolled hem. .
Fee: $50
July 20, 2-5 pm, Friday-Serge a tee shirt. We’ll have kits to make a small adult size tee.
Fee $45
August 27, 1-4 pm, Monday-Serge a small zippered bag-great for cosmetics, sewing supplies, etc. Flatlock zipper application, ruffling and more.
Fee $35
September 18, 6-8 pm, Tuesday-Get to know your chain/coverstitch. Since we rarely get to this stitch in Beyond Basic Sergery we’ll take some time to go over threading, hemming, topstitching and the cool feet that are available for coverstitch machines.

8/1/10-4 pm Duct Tape Double
Looking for a dress form, but your body doesn’t match their measurements? Rather than cut and paste on an expensive dress form, let us tape you up, cut you out, and then we’ll help you stuff your “double” and get her ready to use. You will go home with a dress form that will stand on a flat surface or hang from a hook or pole. *Class fee includes nearly all supplies for a complete dress form. You just need to bring an old or inexpensive new tight fitting mock or turtleneck tee that is mid-thigh length. (You can sew a man’s old T-shirt on the bottom if you need to add length.) You will not see this garment again as it becomes part of the dress form.

8/13,20,27/6-8 pm One Jacket Five Ways
Featuring KwikSew 2896 we’ll show you at least five ways to make this unlined, versatile and easy to sew jacket that will go thru many seasons and become your favorite “throw on” piece that completes an ensemble. Jacket features a two piece sleeve, princess seam from armhole and standup or open “collar” with zip or button option.
Classes will focus on design choices, fit and finishing.
Sewing machine will not be needed for the first class, just the pattern, tracing paper and any fabrics or design ideas you may want to use.
